Lead Pastor: Greg Goostree
I grew up as a church kid in East Clark County who met Jesus and was discipled by a long list of people through my church. During high school, I realized I wanted to be a part of students and their families coming to know who Jesus is and learning how to live for Him. After high school, I attended Multnomah Bible College (now Multnomah University) to earn a bachelor’s degree in Bible, Theology, and Youth Ministry. My time at Multnomah was truly transformative as a Christ follower.
In 1998 I was given my first opportunity to lead a ministry with students. The internship was a catalyst that God used to give me a heart to help students and their families become disciples of Jesus. In 2001, I was hired as the youth pastor at Trinity Fellowship in SE Portland where God shaped me as a young pastor. It did not take long to realize that I wanted more education to better serve families. I enrolled at Western Seminary where I crammed a two-year master’s degree in counseling into four years.
Halfway through my time at Western Seminary (2007) my wife, Lindsay, and I moved to Camas. In 2008 Harvest offered me a position working with youth and their families. A few years later I was I asked to oversee and advise children’s ministry at Harvest. Shortly after that, I was invited to be an elder. In 2017 I transitioned into the Lead Pastor role. Lindsay and I love our church and our little town. Both have provided a great place to raise our four kiddos (Kaden, Raegan, Hudson, and Maddison).
Associate Pastor of teaching & discipleship: Gary Smith
I began serving as Senior Pastor with Harvest in May 2009 after serving as Executive Pastor at a church in Port Angeles, Washington for nearly thirteen years. In 2011 I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. With the gracious help of the Lord and the support of the church body, the staff and elders, I was able to keep serving in that role for a few years. But as the disease progressed, we knew we needed to make a change. Thankfully, our Family Ministries Pastor, Greg Goostree, agreed to take on the role of Lead Pastor. I was able to remain on, in an Associate role.
I have been married to a wonderful woman, Patty, since May of 1988. We have three adult children - a son, Alex, and two daughters, Emily (who is married) and Rachel. We love the people of Harvest and are grateful to share in what God is doing here through the grace and truth of Jesus Christ. Harvest is blessed with a gifted staff and elder team who love Jesus and are devoted to growing people in knowing and living for him. It is a privilege and joy to serve with them.
While Harvest is not a perfect church, I can say from my experience in the way they have stood with me as a “broken pastor,” that Harvest is the real thing when it comes to being a caring community for broken people. Our hope is in God who empowers us in our weakness to make disciples for Jesus through gospel-centered mission, growth, and community. Come join us in carrying out and living Christ’s mission!
Youth Pastor: Matt Eldredge
Even though I grew up in the church, I resisted a life that was truly centered on Jesus and kept him as a backup plan in case my plans didn't work out. Funny thing is my plans left me really empty and before I could even think to go to Jesus as plan B, he had already been in pursuit of me and welcomed me home with a grace that was completely overwhelming. I knew I wanted to live a life filled with Christ's purposes and that's what led me to working with the Harvest youth group.
I've been here now since 2010 and now serve as the Youth Pastor. I love doing life with students because of how hungry they are for purpose and relationships that matter. We hope for our youth group to be family and to grow our roots deep into Jesus, knowing that we are his disciples and in turn to go out making disciples.
I'm married to my best friend Kathleen and love doing life and ministry together. We both serve as Young Life leaders and have a blast connecting with students from Camas High School. We also love Ben and Jerry's and The Office! This community has helped shape us as a couple and we're thankful to have a community who has thoroughly cheered us on.
Worship Arts Director: Sheri Richter
I have been on staff at Harvest since 2003 as the Worship Arts Coordinator.
Each week, I work with the pastoral team to craft the service elements including prayer, scripture readings, music, and more. I also work to plan many of the special services and Harvest gatherings. One of my greatest delights is seeing the people of Harvest using their gifts and talents to encourage and strengthen the body of believers.
I’m married to Joel Richter and we have two grown daughters, Joy and Hope, and the cutest puppy on the planet, Olive.
In addition to my work with the Sunday services, my passion is to lead and teach women’s Bible studies. I love to extend the invitation to all Harvest women to experience the joy and goodness of studying the Scriptures together as a regular part of life. In my desire to do this well, I take Bible and Theology classes at Multnomah University. I may be the oldest person there, but am always learning!
Director of Children's Ministry: Patty Smith
Children’s ministry has been a part of my life since my early teen years. I came to love Jesus as a young child and grew up in a family of deeply committed believers. My father was a pastor, and my grandparents and great-grandparents were missionaries in China.
I attended and graduated from Moody Bible Institute and Lancaster Bible College with a degree in Christian Education and Bible. Prior to being on staff at Harvest, I served on staff at Northwest Bible Church in Dallas, Texas and at Independent Bible Church in Port Angeles, Washington. I have taught Kindergarten and pre-school, and have been involved in other fun and educational activities for kids along the way.
Gary and I married in 1988 and have been on this journey of faith and family ever since. We are deeply committed to one another and serving God to the fullest. We have three adult children and two cats.
In my spare time, I enjoy wandering through estate sales and thrift stores. I still write old-fashioned letters to my friends far away. And I love living in Camas and the closeness of the community.
It is a true joy to be a part of serving the children and families of Harvest Church.
Administrative Assistant: Alyssa Higginson
I grew up going to church in the Camas/Washougal area with my family. We came to Harvest in 2003 and it has been home ever since. Serving and being in community here has been instrumental in my walk with Jesus and my growth in love for Him and His Word.
When I became the administrative assistant at Harvest, it was not something I had seen myself doing. In 2012 I left the job to fulfill a lifelong dream to attend Capernwray Bible School in England and travel. Upon returning home, it became clear to me that there's no place I'd rather work than serving alongside this wonderful staff to be a part of God's Kingdom coming in Camas.
I enjoy reading a variety of books with a cup of tea, making good food and sharing it, and dabbling in graphic design. I've been overwhelmed by God's kindness to me in countless ways.
