Flesh or Spirit?
Apart from the work of the Spirit of Christ in us, we are only flesh - only fallen and corrupted humanity. This means that by nature we are hostile to God. We don't and can't submit to his law. We can't please God. No wonder that if we live according to the flesh, we die eternally. But if by the Spirit we put to death our sinful deeds, we will live eternally. It is good to recognize which track we are on. The Spirit of God removes our hostility to God and makes us his sons. Instead of being unable to please God, the Spirit leads us to kill sin and to cry, "Abba! Father!" as we struggle to to live for him and love him. Romans 8:7-8, 12-15.
